Transfusion medicine has grown exponentially in recent decades. The current concept of transfusion medicine includes both transfusion of blood components and hematopoietic transplants, cellular and tissue therapy and immunotherapy, areas that integrate the curriculum of the University Master’s Degree in Transfusion Medicine and Cellular and Tissue Therapies. This University Master’s Degree has been conceived by the best international experts in this field and is linked to the Chair of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular and Tissue Therapy (CMT3), formed by members of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Salut i Envelliment Foundation and the Blood and Tissue Bank. From 2022-23, the Master’s Degree expanded its international dimension by offering a joint biennial degree with Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), specialising in clinical transfusion, a leader in transfused cellular therapies for regenerative medicine in the Netherlands and linked to Sanquin, the Dutch blood and tissue bank. The collaboration between Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Leiden University, Sanquin and the Blood and Tissue Bank forms one of the most potentially powerful international alliances for the creation and transmission of knowledge in the field of Cellular and Tissue Transfusion Medicine, and with the present Master’s Degree as a spearhead with the greatest impact.

The Master’s Degree in Transfusion Medicine and Cellular and Tissue Therapies is a joint degree between Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), forming one of the most powerful international alliances in creating and transmitting knowledge in the field of Cellular and Tissue Transfusion Medicine, with this master’s program as its most impactful exponent.
The program has been designed by the best international experts in the field. Leiden University Medical Centre is a specialized center in clinical transfusion, a leader in transfused cellular therapies for regenerative medicine in the Netherlands, and is linked to Sanquin, the Dutch blood and tissue bank. On behalf of UAB, it is linked to the Chair of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular and Tissue Therapy (CMT3), composed of members from the university, the Fundació Salut i Envelliment, and the Banc de Sang i Teixits of Catalunya.
This degree provides highly specialized and up-to-date training in transfusion medicine and advanced cellular therapies. It develops specific competencies related to the analysis and application of the latest advancements in the field. Additionally, it promotes the ability to make strategic and operational decisions to improve job prospects or access work areas with responsibility in the various positions of the blood transfusion value chain.
The classes are 100% online in two groups, one bilingual (Spanish-English) and the other in English.
Pre-registration period: From January to October 2025
Master’s start date: October 2025
Admission Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in: Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, and Biology, or similar qualifications. A Nursing degree with at least 4 years of experience in transfusion medicine services is also accepted.
– B2 level of English or equivalent for students enrolling in the English language group. Accreditation of B1 level English or equivalent and B2 level Spanish or equivalent for students enrolling in the Spanish language group.

Here is a brief summary of the steps to follow:
1. Access the online pre-registration website.
2. Enter all your personal and academic details.
3. Attach the required documents (in PDF or JPG format):
• Official bachelor’s degree or equivalent. If you have not yet obtained the degree, you can attach the application. If you have not completed your studies, you can attach a written forecast of completion.
• Personal Academic Certificate. It must include the courses taken, ECTS credits (or hours), completed calls, grades per subject, and overall grade.
• Curriculum Vitae.
• Motivation letter addressed to the master’s coordination.
• Language level certificates.
4. Complete the process by paying the registration fee of 30.21 euros with a bank card.
5. In the coming weeks, the coordination team will evaluate the pre-registration. If admitted, you will receive the corresponding notification by email along with instructions to pay the pre-enrollment fee of 1,000.00 euros, which will be deducted from the total tuition fee for 60 ECTS, plus additional training if applicable.
6. Before the start of classes, all required documentation must be presented in Catalan, Spanish, or English. If the documentation is not European, it must be legalized by the Apostille of The Hague or through diplomatic channels.
7. The online enrollment will take place in October. At the time of enrollment, you can choose between our different payment methods.
8.
