This Advanced Immunology Summer School is designed for PhD students and early post docs who already have a basic knowledge of immunology. Participation is open to all, not only ENII member institutes. Lab staff members are also welcome to participate.
Launched in 2006 in (the inimitable) Capo Caccia (Alghero, Sardinia), the School moved to another location near Alghero, Porto Conte, from 2012-2014, and from 2015-2019 on the North-East coast near Porto Cervo. In 2022 (after a two year break due to COVID) the School moved back the the North-West area of Sardinia, to the historic sea town of Alghero.
Over 1700 alumni have attended the School and more than 125 faculty members have participated over these years. Forming a strong network among the international alumni is the lasting value of attending the School.
The six-day course is a combination of lectures from the guest faculty, which are then followed up with smaller discussion sessions to allow greater interaction and time for addressing the current issues of the topic. Poster sessions are an integral part of the school and take place after dinner for 5 nights at which time the faculty and students mingle and discuss the students’ works. In addition, 20% of the students are selected to give brief oral presentations in the main auditorium – this is an excellent opportunity for participants to practice their presentation skills and prepare to answer questions from their peers and the faculty. All other contributing authors will give a 1 minute, 1 slide, presentation as a “teaser” to attract people to visit their poster.
